In-game Graphic Design for Resistance 3 (Insomniac Games), by Matt Ciaglia.
In Game & Graphics we think that’s interesting to know a little bit more of the process of design, so I asked Matt to tell us something about it:
“I spent about 2 years working on Resistance 3 and also working on artwork for Insomniac Games upcoming titles. My role for the project was Graphic Artist. I worked with the Art Director, Grant Hollis on several aspects of the 2D assets creation.
To maintain the period appropriate look and feel, I used typography from the time period to help support the aesthetic. The game is set in the United States in the 1950’s. An alien race know as the Chimera have taken over the planet Earth. I pulled inspiration from various graphics designers such as Saul Bass and Paul Rand, along with several WWII posters and Military designs.
I created a majority of the signs in the environments, icons for the UI, maps, trophies, and pickups. I also worked with our editors, Calvin Wong and Paul Featherstone, on several developer diaries video and for the games weapon training videos (providing motion graphics). The journals in the game were all hand written with support from concept artist Rodrigo Ribeiro.”
Thanks Matt!
